I love the conversation that this song has sparked.
I like the interpretation of it being commentary on what Israel is doing to Palestine, despite Jewish people having gone through all that. Or that in a sense they are both f*cked but the powerful people with their false promises or the interpretation that it is generally a song about peace or about how the governments will use anything that's sacred to make people do their bidding. Even the interpretation of it being about ancient Israel is nice. I am not a fan of the interpretation of it being a super pro Israel song. A part of me wishes that Siouxsie went deeper than just singing the praises of what is now an apartheid state, but I don't know. I'd like to see what she thinks of the conversations here on this site. |
