Mandy Moore – In My Pocket Lyrics 5 months ago
It sounds to me that he is the one searching for her, maybe he’s not sure exactly who “her” is, but regardless he’s looking for real true love as he has it to give the girl who also has it. She knows she’s it, she’s the real deal, all she has is real true love. She is also not like everyone else or every other girl. (Among the many muted faces (they’re all the same), you try to find me in the spaces. You’re drawn to my song) he is drawn to her because she’s different, she’s special, she’s not like the rest. That’s what he desires, someone who is special and is different who understands love as he wants and needs it. He lives, (he moves) but not to fall or be in a place (mental or physical) as everyone else. He, stops, he closes his eyes, he envisions her and she is all he needs. When he finds her, he’s almost afraid to reveal the truth, that she is it, she is what he needs. But he’s still afraid of it, afraid of the true love and power over his heart she has. He’s “hoping the melody with leave” him because he doesn’t want to get hurt. He doesn’t want her to see that she is what he wants as in fear she might break his heart. He “walks to where I might not see you” meaning he hides, he is trying to hide that she is true love and has a power over him he doesn’t want her to know about. He wants her love, a feel for her love, but he’s almost too afraid to feel it completely. And she notices. She’s been in the exact same place before in her own life. And now even she’s afraid that his eyes will reveal what she needs as well. She’s saying that all she has for him is love, that is all he is truly desiring and the faith that love is really all they need. But she says “how much for your love?” She’s basically telling him what can I do to show you, prove it to you, that I have true love for you. She’s trying to say that he can let his guard down with her, she won’t break his heart and when he finally does, it will be revealed- the love he has for her as well. She feels that he is all she needs as well. She’s saying “slip my heart in your back pocket”, meaning keep it , it’s there for you when you realize it’s real, but “don’t leave me hear without it” because she also needs his love. (She’d be “broke” without it, or she’d be sad, lost, etc., without his love too). So she keeps trying to show him, convince him, or prove to him somehow she’s got the true love he’s been looking for. (As in “how much for your love?” Because at the end of the song she’s still trying to get him to reveal to her that not only has he been searching for true love and found it and she wants to show him but that she knows he also has that love for her.

If you think about it a little more deeply it’s a well written song and deserves more attention to it than just face value. Which, is, what music lyrics are supposed to be.

Future – Mask Off Lyrics 1 year ago
So I had this song wrong from the beginning. It is not about “drugs and bitches”. It’s about his climb to success from literally being in some of the worst and lowest times of his life. And regardless of what has been mentioned about the poor grammar, and the grammar itself, it’s actually really genius if you really listen to the words and put it all together. He’s celebrating his hard work which led to his success and wealth with the people who he’s always been close to. And he’s saying that he’s the “living proof” that regardless of where you start or where you’re at, you can be a success like him. He also talks about some of the nice expensive things he can buy as well as places he can now visit and experiences he can have now that he’s made money with his success and hard work. The “mask on, f**k it mask off”, he’s trying to say that his past that he describes is still a big part of him and he either feels like it’s too much to either hide it or pretend it doesn’t exist so if others who are at the top of their success or other wealthy people don’t like it, he can’t keep a mask on and hide it or be fake about it. So much so that he “reps the set” which means he’s also representing the people closest to him that have been with him from before the game and success. It could mean what it means- a gang he’s been a part of but I also think he could also be talking about his other actual family members and friends and also- where he’s from and most especially the LIFESTYLE he had before the success, fame and wealth, which, I believe is what he really means and that’s why he talks about the drugs and drug houses, etc. to his current experiences like “calamari Wednesday”. I had this song pegged completely wrong in the beginning and I almost feel bad for that. Once I actually read the lyrics as the song was playing it immediately made sense and my opinion of it completely changed. It’s actually one of my favorite songs now and honestly very well written because it’s so much more than “Percocet Molly Percocet” and has a deeper very meaningful and definitely a very personal meaning as he is “mask off” and lets his fans in on where his life was before his hard work, rise to success and fame and the money he’s made from it that led to his life experiences of today. And maybe being somewhat pressured either to keep some sort of it hidden or unknown but ultimately he realizes that he doesn’t need to or need to be fake in any way. “Mask on, F**K it, mask off”. Really really super awesome song, Future. You made a complete and devoted fan out of me with the ingeniously written song. Great job! ❤️

Linkin Park – With You Lyrics 1 year ago
It’s about a relationship, any relationship, not necessarily romantic, and one person seems stuck in the past. Their memories are still so vivid of the past and of his mistakes in the past so much so it still feels like he’s either still with the other person however the other person has either moved on or probably doesn’t give him a second thought much less the obsession that the other person is still giving. Also, I just wanted to add the line “I hit you and you hit me back” doesn’t necessarily mean that it was a physical fight, it could be that it was just an argument and the word “hit” meaning the words back and forth that each of them spoke to each other. And in fact they have this argument or fight for so long they both get very tired from it. (Either one fight or even a good part of the relationship was nothing but fights). He’s left with the memory of his mistakes in the relationship and “slow to react” meaning he didn’t take responsibility for his part at the time. And the other person he still feels so close to -or wants to be- but the other person is keeping their distance and has moved on from them. Still, he is obsessed with that person and their memory haunts them and he sees them “even when I close my eyes” meaning he can not forget this person no matter what he does. “No matter how far we’ve come, I can’t wait to see tomorrow”, I take that to mean that even though they’ve grown far apart, he’s still hoping that one day they’ll reconnect.
This is just a very simple explanation, as I was just asked by my 10-year old daughter what this song meant after it had just played. Re-reading the lyrics to her then explaining it so she would understand really just put it in a simple perspective. Great song, too.
