Roxy Music – Do The Strand Lyrics 2 years ago
In 1982 I took a trip from Seattle to London Endland to embrace the city that inspired most of my favorite musicians that inspired me. I thought it was fitting to take a "double decker bus" from Heathrow airport to London. I took up a seat in the back of the upperdeck as my comfort zone and there 2 British girls joined me about 1 or 2 seats in front of me. I asked them about the Strand and how to find it. I knew it was a street and district in London somewhere. The girls giggled and looked at me funny, why do you want to go there they snigger. Well I'm a big Roxy Music fan and It is my last name why do you ask? I wondered and they replied "oh you'll see. So I continue to travel there. I had always thought of "Do the Strand" as a metaphor for copulation disguised as a dance. "DO IT ON THE TABLES" "IN FURS OR BLUE JEANS, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN" and Bryan's reference to all those that were doing the Strand. Once I got there I discovered it was Londons (red light district) and that also made me think the song was about copulation. It's been awesome to play this song for my friends and point out Roxy Music wrote it for me although I was 10 when it came out and I hadn't heard it till I was 18. I still contend it is a sexual song and that I inspired it. But after doing the Strand in London by visiting the area...not actually doing the dance, I still think it is about the magical dance a man and woman perform in private, you know what I mean.
