Arctic Monkeys – 505 Lyrics 2 years ago
I think this song is about Turner and a lover saying goodbye as he goes away to tour, for his first album, Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not. I'm guessing he wrote this mid-tour, saying he wants to go back to when he was with his girlfriend because he misses her. When she's got her hands between her thighs, people say it's sexual but I'm not sure. I think it's because she's going to be alone for a while, she's got to make herself comfortable and warm.
'I'm going back to 505 If it's a seven hour flight or a 45 minute drive In my imagination, your waiting, laying on your side With your hands between your thighs'
The next section is basically, in what I think, Turner is imagining her while he's on tour. He's thinking about her and how she looks at him. he fears she's going to hate her, so he'd still love her whether she hated him or not.
'Stop and wait a sec When you look at me like that, my darling, what did you expect?
I'd probably still adore you with your hands around my neck Or I did last time I checked'
I think in the next section, he's saying that he's not shy if she's mad at him going away on tour or possibly something else and then he begins to feel unsure if he meets the girls expectations of a man, he thinks it'll hurt if he's not what she wants. He's frightened by the thought of it although it is just a thought. I'm unsure about the last line of this section, maybe Turner's being sarcastic, saying if they broke up or she was unsure of if he met her expectations, doing it while he's on tour is such a 'perfect place to start', i don't know
'Not shy of a spark The knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark Frightened by the bite, though it's no harsher than the bark The middle of adventure, such a perfect place to start'
In the last section, which is not repeated like the first, third and fifth, he's saying that he hates to see her upset when he goes away and that they're greeting each other with goodbye as soon as he comes back, they had little breaks in the middle of the tour like every tour, so I'm thinking it's after he's came back from one of these breaks, like I've just came back and I'm already leaving again. I'm unsure about the surprise part, maybe he's coming home early and he really wants to tell her, taking his hands off her eyes too soon means to show her the surprise before he was meant to.
'But I crumble completely when you cry It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye I'm always just about to go and spoil the surprise Take my hands off of your eyes too soon'

I don't know if this is right but this is just what I think the song means lol

Arctic Monkeys – Dancing Shoes Lyrics 2 years ago
FIRST VERSE;"Get on your dancing shoes/There's one thing on your mind/Hoping they're looking for you/Sure you'll be rummaging through" This verve is basically saying let me get on the dancefloor, I've got someONE on my mind and I hope that someONE is doing the same thing for me, I'll be looking for them
SECOND VERSE;"Oh and the shit, shock, the horror/You've seen your future bride/Yeah, but it's oh so absurd/For you to say the first word/So you're waiting and waiting and" He's saying that he's just seen the someone he was looking for and he thinks they could be his bride, he thinks he's weird to say the first word so he waits
THIRD VERSE;"The only reason that you came/So what you scared for/Oh, don't you always do the same/It's what you there for, don't you know" she's the only reason he went to the pub or club, he doesn't know why he was scared as he preparing for it earlier, she starts to doubt himself as he 'always do the same'
FOURTH VERSE; "The lights are flashing/Down in here tonight/And some might exchange a glance/But keep pretending to dance" the lights in the pub or club are flashing and he keeps making the glance the girl, but he keeps pretending to dance on the dancefloor
FIFTH VERSE;"Don't act like it's not happening/As if it's impolite/To go and mention your name/Instead you'll just do the same/As they all do, and hope for the best"he's telling himself to not act like they arn't glacing at each other, 'as if it's impolite', he's hoping to go up to the girl and introduce himself as that's what 'they all do and hope for the best'
SIXTH VERSE; same as the third
SEVENTH VERSE;"Get on your dancing shoes/You sexy little swine/Hoping they're looking for you/Sure you'll be rummaging through" He's hoping that she goes on the dancefloor and starts to look for him
EIGHT VERSE;same as the second

I love this song, I don't know the real meaning but because I've grew up in England I'm going off what would usually happen in a club
