| Ben Howard – Black Flies Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
Hard hitting song. First of all, the love for poetry is for it to resonate with the reader as it fits. This is why often times artists don't make known the actual meaning, because they want the reader to resonate with it in their own way. The ability to resonate with the words or lyrics instead of dismissing it, because it doesn't resonate with us. Poetry and lyrics are emotional bonds. If you knew the meaning would you still listen to it? Would you still feel the lyrics? Empaths would, even if it took from our own interpretation we'd absorb what the writer was feeling. It can be frustrating to not know what the person was going through if you're in fact an empath, but the moral is to not disqualify a "good song or poem," overthinking can destroy good things, which could resonate with the writer here. Only recently have I started looking into the actual meanings of songs and I never wanted to know, because it does take away the depth of it and how it resonates to me. I would say that the best way to interpret any song or poem, is to feel it in your own way. I will however tell you how it resonates with me. To begin in depth, we must know the vocabulary, wouldn't you think so? Black flies spiritually represent hate, malice, or blame. Black flies on the windowsill represents a fly that is trapped and wants out, it is imprisoned, drawn to a seductive light (warmth). Some are fortunate enough to take a different route, others not so much. That we are, that we are, that we are to know- the person knows where there stance is whether it be an expectation, someone's got a hold on them, or they don't know how to escape on their own. Winter stole summer's thrill, flies are attracted to warmth of the sun, or the idea of freedom. The river's cracked and cold it is hardening and breaking. See, the sky is no man's land and no man's land means a strip of land that no one owns or controls. A darkend plume to stay... a plume is the wings and darkening is an expression. Could it be that they're deadening, worn out, overexertion, hurting? What this says to me that the person would be a fool to stay. No man is an island, he isn't self-sufficient, he must rely on comfort. Not a fox in your place (gosh that's heavy ah) this is where the illistrator indicates that this is about someone. There's no one comparable to (only writer knows). No man is an island again saying that they need someone dependable to rely on for comfort emotional support. Oh, this I know is the writer confirming that they can't be with the "unknown." But can't you see, oh? The writer is asking if the person knows how they feel. Or maybe (which doesn't mean yes or no), you were the ocean (ocean represents a symbol of stability, it is boundless, a place to easily get lost, which one can get lost on their journey. Don't oversee the depth, significance, and impact the ocean has. 71% of the earth is made of of water. This is "deeper than the holler," as Alan Jackson would say. In other words it's not meaningless. When I was just a stone (gosh that's like being stabbed in the gut with a knife). What the writer is saying is that they don't feel worthy enough. Every story must grow old. Our journeys will all come to an end, eventually. Whether it be now or later. It is inevitable like death. The writer is probably saying that no matter when it will happen at some point and time. Still I'll be a traveller. With or without they'll keep travelling. "It's the journey," the show must go on. A gypsy's reign to face. A gypsy would be the roamer, and reign means a king or queen. A gypsy's reign to face, but the road is wearier (tiredness), with a fool found in your place. (Hard hitting message) The writer is stating carrying the weight of regret. The entirety of of these lyrics hit like a ton of bricks, but this next part is as deep as it gets. I don't want to be your pardon, they don't want to pass this by like it was nothing or they were no one. I don't want to ask you why, but if I was to go my own way, would I have to pass you by. This is more reassurance that this is about someone. The writer doesn't want to ask them why this is the outcome of their situationship (friend or romance), if they give up will they have to pass them by? Doesn't want to face them or the situation, not wanting to relive it, because it cuts too deeply. Again, however it resonates with the reader, that's what it means. Whatever it means to you is what it means. This is beautifully written. It has ben one of my favorites since I first heard it. I 100% believe that the rumor of it being about the inability for two people to find common grounds. Sorry, had to edit this a bit and add in my own thoughts. Overthinkers ruin a lot of good things by overthinking, I'm one of them. We think too deeply and get attached too easily, but once we know better, we do better, so do better. Try not to resonate too much with these lyrics, because this is feeling of regret and that's a predicament no one wants to be. Although, we all do experience it, try to think outside the box. Like having more faith, hope, and don't allow negative thoughts to consume us. These lyrics screams 100% male energy. This man is saying that he and this person are two different people, or maybe that's just how he sees it? He thinks of them as the depth of the ocean, whereas, only sees himself as stone. He doesn't feel good enough. This is someone who feels insecure, yet they feel a deep longing connection to someone they don't think are capable of feeding their insecurities (making them feel more insecure). It's like wanting a slice of cake, but you're on a diet. ;) The other person is secure in their ways, confident, and free spirited. They don't know how to let them go, but doesn't know how to be with them either. "Heal the root so the tree is stable," comes to mind. Figure out what broke you, so that you can find the other open window or door, instead of falling dead on the windowsill like many flies do (a feeling of being trapped), but wise enough to find another way out. One of them has found their escape, but the other hasn't. I think that is what he admires about her, she's free and makes him hopeful. Men settle too often, because they commit to relationships that feel safe. An example of these lyrics is a battle between your head and your heart. "You love her, but you let her go." Very few men know how to follow their heart, they aren't wired for it like women. Ultimately, which is worse living in regret or taking a chance? I say, know your worth, stand on it. Whatever is most valuable to you. It's your life, everyone else just lives in it. Don't let life pass by trying to please others. Do whatever sets your soul on fire. |

| Nelly Furtado – I'm Like A Bird Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
I LOVE this song. It's very relatable and easily understood. I love the simplicity of it. The lyrics are timeless, because a person like this doesn't change who they are. You're beautiful and that's for sure You'll never ever fade You're lovely, but it's not for sure That I won't ever change This is her way of building your confidence. Letting you know that it isn't about you. It's simply who she is. Your beauty won't fade, just because she can't relate. That being on an attachment level of romance. She can't promise you that she'll ever change her ways... free spirit. And though my love is rare And though my love is true She knows how rare her love is. Also, how genuine her love is. She's not emotionally detached, because she doesn't have a soul/heart. It's actually the exact opposite. I'm like a bird I'll only fly away I don't know where my soul is (soul is) I don't know where my home is And baby, all I need for you to know is I'm like a bird I'll only fly away I don't know where my soul is (soul is) I don't know where my home is All I need for you to know is (soul is) She's like a bird, meaning that she isn't meant to love ONE soul. She knows her purpose. Her purpose is to love others and that love can't be trapped into a box. She loves love, and that is why relationships don't last. She's got too much love to give. There's too many people needing a shoulder to cry on to only give it to one person at a time. Jealousy is the norm, but it isn't her norm. As soon as someone tries to tame her love, that is when she will fly away. I don't know where my soul is, a metaphor for people who convince her that she's soulless, because she isn't a practical lover, one person at a time. She loves everyone and doesn't know how to love otherwise. She doesn't know where her home is, means that she doesn't have a stable home, because she has an adventurous soul. She's going to do what she wants to do, love whomever she wants to love, and live where she wants to live. That can be implied in every context, or just one. She might have a stable home, but an unstable heart. It isn't because she's emotionally unstable, or incapable of love. It is about her flexibility to roam spiritually, emotionally, or romantically. She is being honest with herself, and the listen-ears. It very unlikely has to do with being a hoe. Js. That is what those who're trapped inside of a box might assume, but it isn't so. She's simply letting the wind be her guide. If its meant for her, it will be. She'll flow through life, instead of letting other people tell her who she is. She's letting the person know that she can't promise to ever be tamed. It isn't her nature. Your faith in me brings me to tears (ah) Even after all these years, years And it pains me so much to tell That you don't know me that well Someone who believed in her for years, it makes her sad that someone who is so attached to her, doesn't understand her. She wants them to comprehend that she will carry her wild spirit, whether or not, they can accept it or not. It's not that I wanna say goodbye It's just that every time you try To tell me, me that you love me (oh, oh) Each and every single day I know I'm gonna have to eventually give you away, yeah This is deep. She doesn't want to say goodbye, but if he doesn't love her for who she is, then it isn't ever going to work. She either needs a free spirit like her, or someone who doesn't try to change that about her. Free spirit and lack of loyalty are NOT the same thing. People have a tendency to confuse this. |

| Alter Bridge – Broken Wings Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
The video gives it away for me. In the beginning a guy gets into a car and ends up in the trunk. This is about saying that we are all alone on this journey we call life, because people change and nothing is predictable. Who is to say we won't end up alone? He is looking for a meaning to stay alive. |

| Fleetwood Mac – Rhiannon Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| @[Smith47921:47388] I don't think it's about her wanting or needing to be loved. That is why she is mysterious to everyone else, because she is a woman who doesn't have to have companionship in order to live. I don't think women like this are incapable of love, but must be loved for who they are even if you don't understand them. | |
| Fleetwood Mac – Rhiannon Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night And wouldn't you love to love her? Takes to the sky like a bird in flight And who will be her lover? She has an adventurous and spontaneous soul, who wouldn't love her, she's unpredictable and who doesn't want to catch an uncatchable soul, she is an adventure, and who doesn't like adventures? Will she ever love anyone? How lucky would they have to be? What person can tame such a wild soul? All your life you've never seen A woman taken by the wind Would you stay if she promised you heaven? Will you ever win? Women are generally very predictable, but not her. She soars through the air like a bird, nothing holds her aback. What would you have to offer her, in order to keep her, the sky being the limit. Could you ever win? Will there ever be a winner, or will she always want to spread her wings and fly away? She is like a cat in the dark And then she is the darkness She rules her life like a fine skylark And when the sky is starless Cats are mysterious creatures, who're unafraid of the dark. She's dark meaning, mysteriously. She is the ruler of her own life, like a cat. She doesn't need an atlas to find her way, she's on her own path, even if she doesn't know where it is she's heading. All your life you've never seen A woman taken by the wind Would you stay if she promised you heaven? Will you ever win? Will you ever win? Whomever is telling this story, is shaken by the fact she is like the wind, unpredictable. What is he going to have to offer to win her heart? Simple: she's a wild one, or is she? Perhaps, she's just Rhiannon? |

| Queensrÿche – Silent Lucidity Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| This is a good one. In simplest form: it's about being able to control your own life or destiny, just like a lucid dream. I guess that's why so many people can relate to it from weddings, births, and even death. Life is all what you make of it. | |

| I will add there's only one way to know, catch the ship, or sit and wonder yourself ill. Sink or swim. As for me, just keep swimming.. "Not all those who wander are lost." | |

| Cher – Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
I'm not the biggest Cher fan, but nothing personal. She is unique and someone worthy of her fame. I saw this on someone's profile and can't deny the song is catchy! Especially, to a halfway relatable perspective. I was born in the wagon of a travelin' show My mama used to dance for the money they'd throw Papa would do whatever he could Preach a little gospel, sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good Overthinker perspective: her mama used to dance for money says that her mom was a "wild woman," considered by outsiders. Her father was the complete opposite, or a fake. It could be implied that they're together, or maybe divorced. It doesn't matter, because their relevance is only to state where she might get her ways or confusion. Picked up a boy just south of Mobile Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal I was sixteen, he was twenty-one Rode with us to Memphis And papa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done This doesn't scream rape to me, whatsoever. It sounds to me like he might've taken her virginity. Of course, there's a possibility he did but that isn't the moral here either. Gypsies, tramps, and thieves We'd hear it from the people of the town They'd call us gypsies, tramps, and thieves But every night all the men would come around And lay their money down Gypsies and thieves go hand in hand, maybe this is implying the two together, or that papa was a lying thief, we don't know, nor is it the moral. Opinions are like askholes, we all got one, despite all the talk around town, men still paid for their services including the husbands of those calling them names. The moral is simple. They are who they are, and the ones trashing their name were still paying for their services, even if said women's husbands were doing so behind closed doors. Talk that talk, but we all bleed red. ;) |

| Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Atlas Hands Lyrics | 2 years ago |
|
An overthinkers (nothing wrong with that) perspective would be to break this down verse by verse. I absorb it from a simplistic point of view. An example: "Take me to the docks, there's a ship without a name there And it is sailing to the middle of the sea The water there is deeper than anything you've ever seen Jump right in and swim until you're free" This is ONE thought, which implies that he wants to be free or to experience it. To know what it's like to get on a ship with no certain destination. Someone who is searching for their identity, without outside perspectives telling them who they are, where they can go, ect. "I will remember your face 'Cause I am still in love with that place But when the stars are the only things we share Will you be there?" He is in love with the idea of someone, because he remembers how she makes him feel. Maybe she reminds him of home, or maybe she feels like home, either or. The last verse implies that he isn't sure if the connection alone might not be enough. The moral isn't about the "girl." It's about himself, even if he doesn't understand that. He doesn't know who he is, but wants to experience freedom, in hopes he will. Keep in mind that the writer of the song could be female, and that she could be telling a story about someone she knew. (not saying this is the case). Generally, artists are deep thinkers, but they narrow down a simplistic thought into a song, painting, ect. I personally think this song is about someone searching for themselves, and she probably caused him to question who he is. |
