I love this song, and what I find interesting is the ambiguity in the relationships. It could be a love triangle. It could be two friends siding against a third. It could also be that the singer started a relationship with a girl and let a friendship fall apart while he focused his attention on the girl. Now that the relationship with the girl has changed (either ended or matured past the intense initial phase), he realizes his friendship is over. In any case, he never says any of the relationships are explicitly romantic, although I think that is the most likely situation. Anyway, it’s some fantastic writing. |
