If you've followed Julian - especially the early-mid stuff - you'll know that there's little point in trying to extract meaning from the lyrics a lot of the time. His love of whimsical wordplay often gets in the way of laser-focused intent. And quite right too. This is art, after all. But let's take a moment to bask in the sheer impressionist ache of lines like "A quiet village boy takes leave of his life, and walks off into the mountains" and the pleading, yearning "Inside I dream I've torn you away. Don't fall, don't die, don't end". |
