The song feels like it is about depression and the fight against it, although it could be general depression, or a response to a particularly hard-hitting life-changing event. The lines "My soul is running on a path that I can not reach My brain is turning and my head is hurting everyday a little bit more" kind of sum up what it means to be depressed. But while the song flits in and out of this dark space it is interspersed with up-lifting sounds and lines. "I can see the sky" - she has hope, and "it's a battle cry". A fierce shout that it won't defeat her. Back to negatives - "I'm a zombie" "I don't know if I'll get through", and the desire for it all to be over "I wanna be floating in space", but to this negative thoughts she fights back - "I gotta stay, stay stay stay stay STAY!" She isn't giving up. It ends with the repeated chorus showing the light at the end of the tunnel and the determination to get there. |
