This song is so personal to me, but I’m not shy, I’m very outgoing. Long story short, in college I had my first BF. He lived in the same, but very large apartment complex. One late afternoon, I walked over to his place, and he and his roommates had a bunch of friends over hanging out in the courtyard. He didn’t exactly ignore me but it was close enough. The gathering moved inside into their apartment, where he acted dismissive towards me. I was shocked, angry, confused, and embarrassed. I hung around, waiting for his friends to go so I could talk to him, and figure out why he was acting this way.At this point mortified, waiting anywhere he was not. “ On the other side. He basically told me, “ You can’t just show up here when my friends are around . After 5 months together. He wanted me for one thing. I walked away and never looked back. And I never allowed it to happen again. This song has a genius ambiguity of an upbeat melody coupled with sad, hurtful lyrics. Paul is genius. |
