I'm going to be doing this in a similar format to a genius interview but I didn't write the song, so take it with a grain of salt. "Somewhere in the world there, is a father and a mother And the father is a son, who has a mother The mother has a daughter who gets married to the brother of a mother And they all just tryna multiply with one another" This likely represents how tendencies pass through families and generations "'Cause that's just the way of the world It never ends till the end, then you start again That's just the way of the world That's just the way of the world" We are in an endless cycle and even if it ends it may start again "Somewhere in the world, they think they're working for themselves They get up everyday to go to work for someone else And somebody works for them and, so, they think they got it made But they're all just working to get paid the very same" This talks about the desire for power and everyone thinks they have it if they have money or a good job, but that's not what defines us at all "And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs Skiddly-dee-da-dum They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum And so, they keep on twiddlin' them thumbs Skiddly-dee-da-dum (skiddly-dee-da-dum) They gonna keep on twiddlin' them thumbs Skiddly-dee-da-dum-dum" People just continue to do what's expected without questioning it "Somewhere in the world, you got a robber and a bank And the bank robbed the people, so the people rob the bank And the police came to get him, but they let him get away 'Cause they're all just workin' to get paid the very same" It sees like this police officer is having an identity crisis because they are actually starting to question why they do what they do "Don't believe everything that you hear Let it go through your left and right ear Don't just march to the beat of that drum" This is a reminder that you don't have to be what other people want you to be. This is a catchy song with an amazing message, I highly recommend it. |

| Conan Gray – Astronomy Lyrics | 2 years ago |

There are no comments on any of his songs, so I'm going to try to fix that. At first I didn't really like this song, but now I love it, so I recommend listening to it a few times. This is going to be in a similar format to a genius interview but I didn't write the song, so take this with a grain of salt. Conan Gray himself said that this song was inspired by the fear of losing his best friend. "We drive through the woods, rich neighborhoods to watch We joked as we looked that they were too good for us 'Cause socially speaking, we were the same With runaway fathers and mothers who drank" This shows how similar their lives were growing up, and although the circumstances weren't great, he still has some good memories attached to this phase of his life. "A tale old as time, young love don't last for life" It's really powerful how he just goes straight into this because its still sung in the same soft tone, but its very quickly drifting away from the scenario introduced in the beginning. "And now I know, now I know It's time to go, it's time to go" This shows the realization that he needs to let go even though he really doesn't want to "We've traveled the seas, we've ridden the stars We've seen everything from Saturn to Mars As much as it seems like you own my heart It's astronomy, we're two worlds apart we're two worlds apart (It's astronomy) we're two worlds apart" The first part represents all they have been through together. This has given them such a special place in each others hearts, but their lives are just so different now that they might just naturally drift apart and not be able to do anything about it. "From far away, I wish I'd stayed with you But here, face to face, a stranger that I once knew This represents his fear of taking a look at his own life and not even knowing her anymore. I thought, if I wanted, I'd fall back in love You said, "Distance brings fondness", but guess not with us" This implies the inability to recover this friendship because the distance between them, both literally and figuratively could be harmful. "The only mistake that we didn't make was run (Now look what we've done)" I don't understand this line as well, but I think it represents the fear of looking at someone you used to love and not feeling love for them anymore. "Stop trying to keep us alive You're pointing at stars in the sky that already died Stop trying to keep us alive You can't force the stars to align when they've already died Oh, we've died, ooh-oh-oh" This shows that as much as you may want a relationship to continue, you can't force it if. If the spark has already died, you might not be able to get it back. "Oh, we've traveled the seas, we've ridden the stars We've seen everything from Saturn to Mars As much as it seems like you own my heart It's astronomy, we're two worlds apart" This chorus is sung in a softer tone than the previous parts. I like this because it makes you feel the pain of the relationship ending, but it also brings a sense of peaceful closure. |
