Don McLean – Castles In The Air Lyrics 2 years ago
Aside from the stunning beauty of this song, it also works equally well as a literal narrative, an embroidery of metaphors, or a combination of both. I think everything about the life he's leaving - the castles, the mating "waltz" of urban society, even the girl herself - can be taken as symbolic. That interpretation, which I kind of lean toward, offers a more sympathetic view of the narrator. He isn't a creep breaking up with his girlfriend via a messenger. He's just a disillusioned soul who has decided to leave a life that doesn't fulfill him.
