| Monster Magnet – I Live Behind the Clouds Lyrics | 2 years ago |

This one is fairly straightforward if we look at the middle of the song for the biggest clue and then look at the song from the beginning to the end. The god Surya is mentioned, who is a significant Hindu Sun deity often depicted as flying through the sky in a 7 horsed chariot (vimana). His abilities typically involve dispelling darkness, curing disease, heating and illuminating the Earth. In the song this is hinted at: “Raise Surya to burn off the soil, Make it safe for my eyes”. Now, back to the beginning. “I've got a feeling that no one cares 'Bout all that confetti I throw in the air Nothing's important yet everything is If there ain't no photo I just don't exist” This is a reference to a UFO, which is a common theme for Monster Magnet. He’s lamenting the fact that no one will believe he even exists without a photo no matter what they see of him in the sky (“confetti”). “I see the oceans, the mountains, the plains The rats and the suckers, the strong and the lame Sometimes I dream about flying on down Falling in love and life on the ground” He sees all and wants to land but knows he shouldn’t. “Pull me in, drag me down Into your ocean of love My wings are ragged and my soul is gone So tired of floating above” The same message but acknowledges he has wings, which hints at his being a deity (some Hindus now acknowledge that they were simply Visitors, not deities). His separation from being an observer makes him crave interactions from feeling soulless in the process. He wants a terrestrial existence. “Sing to me baby your sweet refrain I fear I'm coming apart in this rain That's all I need if that's all I hear Some beautiful music as I disappear” Again, the simplest interaction will be satisfying before he disappears. |
