One of the biggest hints that can be the highlight the personality of the song can be explained in the first verse.... for example ''Better with the lights on, we can play my favourite song, looking at me, take one shot, two shot...'' This verse can carry a meaning that is completely devoid of any sentimental position. Just a point of an indication that the lights are on and their favorite song is playing... right after one or two shots; with the effects of alcohol. It definitely can be the main theme of the song is that ''they refer to how far they feel about love or being loved, just what they want, just what they want to feel or to be identified...'' ''It's so hard, babe, loving me I'm like a whiskey, you can feel it Hit so strong but taste so sweet There's no loving me, no way'' Don't these verses say to you, "Yeah, it's hard to love me and I'm not ready to love you or either you loving me? But how about a night with me?" I bet they are on point for this meaning. Also, they go with the power of alcohol in the verses ''...like a whiskey, hit so strong but taste so sweet...''? We know that whiskey has a strong taste. Perhaps we know that only those with a special taste drink whiskey. Perhaps Sam may have mentioned in these lines that "only those who can understand their taste''. ''You say you need me, but you don't know me'' is a definitely a whole another definiton for a significance for ''You think you love me, need me, feel something for me but I'm not the one you think you want for...''. They know that they are certain for what they want; they are ''the dark type, forever lonely; hit so strong but taste so sweet.''. They emphasize that they are just in there for physical, not emotional. They know that they won't be loved at the end of the interaction; there's only the desire for their who they are. It is possible to understand the distance from the person's desire for love by their emphasizing for the lyrics in lyrics ''there's no loving me, no way'' throughout the last 6 lines. They are making sure that they are just in there for the physical interplay with that person. (Maybe, just maybe, they are just feeling, emphasizing their feelings in this way because of their past interactions... who knows?) |

In my specific opinion: This song reveals the tiniest bits of pain of a lost love's absence, in other words; their lost. Think of such a love that it will be a love that has overcome all kinds of fear and vulnerability even at the beginning; This is such a love, such a care and maybe hope... The person in love is at such a point that they has opened up everything, including their whole personality, to them. They call that person a "fool" because that person is not someone they can reciprocate for all their love, attention, or sentimentality; Cause we can understand that that they lost it all to their current lover all those important pieces. They won't cover that person's fears or pick up their tears. They bluntly say, "In my previous relationship, I left with nothing, just in case, against you. I literally got nothing for you. Even feelings..." So we can sense that feeling of surrendering the whole self experienced with a past relationship has caused nothingness for the next relationship. Smith wanted to show their listeners that there is ''nothing to lose'' and ''never loving someone else'' clearly. If they used all their vulnerability to the past relationship, then the difficulty of loving someone else becomes clear; cause they gave their all to a goddamn ''fool'' and they lost everything and they got nothing for their new love interest. They won't hear those invulnerable words or they won't mend those past experiences' damages. Therefore, they were just a new kind of replacement for that previous love. They can't pretedent that they care; they just save their time because they can't ''act like they're in love''. They know they they are not in love completely to be fully invulnerable. They know that they they are the ''product of ttheir own past'' which could be caused by their past experiences... such a bitter realization as I can say... They got nothing to lose; to love again to be honest... |
