Train – Mississippi Lyrics 2 years ago
Growing up around the Mississippi River, I have a different take. Anytime I listen to Train's" Mississippi " I think of an ex and a time she really did me dirty (involves her cheating on me with my now ex-friend and I had to be stuck with them in the state of Mississippi on a group trip to the casino. In the end, everything worked out better for me but I hear this song and I can't help but think of that weekend.

Train's "Mississippi" reminds me of what she meant to me, that ultimate betrayal by her and her cold heartedness non communication, and my sad, confused emotions and it is symbolism for everything about the actual river.

Just like she was, the Mississippi River (at least here in Arkansas) is thought of being a great place to catch fish, but it has a very dangerous undercurrent. It's powerful and magnificent to gaze upon, there's lots of life underneath, and there's a million little tributaries, but it can drown a man quick. Even the most experienced boater can fall prey and whenever she wants, she can rise up and cut through any land and property with ease. The Mississippi River is dark and muddy, but beautifully mysterious, and too enticing for many men.

The River and my memories of her are all intertwined with the haunting tone of the song's notes and subdued sadness from Pat's vocals. That song is exactly how I feel about all of it. I think Pat is singing about lost love that he correlates with the Mississippi River - the lyrics and the way he sings it says it all.

"They call her Mississippi, but she don't flow to me."
