This song is most definitely about the absolute and total rapture of sex. The speaker is aware of the nature of their activities but doesn't care in the end because of how intense and good the experience feels. The girl he's doing it with has obviously been through some sort of trauma, however the speaker seems to believe that because he has been through similar things and can relate to her, it deepens the meaning of their intercourse. ("Sea of sin; know where you've been cause I've been there"). However, the speaker and the girl he's having sex with seem to share a deeper connection than just purely transactional physical contact ("Sea of sin my second skin my home from home"). There are definitely themes of a person being able to form a deeper emotional connection with someone who it would seem is only good for sex. |

To me, this song is about lost love. Think of that girl you'll see at the airport that's absolutely breathtaking, but ultimately you'll never see again. The song chronicles a man who is absolutely infatuated with someone, ("wanted to feel the joy pass between our eyes") to the point of wanting them carnally ("wanted to feel the joy pass between our thighs"). In the end however, the speaker knows that the girl is ultimately out of reach and so beautiful that he'll never be able to be with her ("and I would have to pinch her just to see if she was real"). A very beautiful, dark, and rather sad song. |
