| I interpret this masterpiece About a person that thinks of every mistake he’s made in life that’s led him to what he feels as a failed life and accepts he’s the problem. He feels that fading away is his only relief. I love the tittle because there was times when I used to feel like wasn’t were I needed to be in life and I expected more from myself… fast fwd now and I’m pretty successful and I’m glad I didn’t give up when I felt like a failure. “I'm going back to 505 If it's a seven hour flight or a forty-five minute drive In my imagination, you're waitin' lyin' on your side With your hands between your thighs“ -the drive although 45min feels like a 7hr flight thinking of how he’s going to manage to break up with his girlfriend. He imagines she knows what he’s up to and he pictures her on her bed in the fetal position heartbroken of what’s about to happen. “When you look at me like that, my darlin', what did you expect? I'd probably still adore you with your hands around my neck Or I did last time I checked” -He knows that she feels what he’s planing to do. But she’s so crazy that “what did you expect?” But he’s so attracted to her that he’s been putting up with her toxic ways. And he still feels he loves her “ Not shy of a spark The knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark Frightened by the bite, though it's no harsher than the bark The middle of adventure, such a perfect place to start” -he’s scared at how she may react to breaking up with her. So he hopes he doesn’t back out. He knows how crazy she could be so he plans to take her away from 505 maybe a public place so she doesn’t go overboard at the news that would be a “perfect place to start” “But I crumble completely when you cry It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye I'm always just about to go and spoil the surprise Take my hands off of your eyes too soon” -when he arrives at her place. She “acts surprised” that he’s there but she knows the reason and begins to cry and when he is about to break the news just like every other attempt before he crumbles and makes up an excuse to leave early. The last verse is my favorite as it shows how manipulative she is and he knows it. The last line sums it up “I'm going back to 505 If it's a seven hour flight or a forty-five minute drive In my imagination, you're waitin' lyin' on your side With your hands between your thighs and a smile” -he’s going back but this time he’s dreading it because he knows he’s weak for her and he imagines that she knows this.. she is laying in the fetal position but she’s waiting this time wearing a smile I know this feeling…. I ended up married to her. Over the years we have matured and she’s the greatest mother and perfect wife sometimes I wonder why she loved me so hard when we were young. This song came out when we were dating and it hit me so hard. Now when I listen to it… I cry because I’m glad I stayed. |
