I just wanted to share something that not everyone realizes. Shirley Manson suffered from a very severe depression problem, rooted in very low self-esteem. I believe the point of the song is everyone tells you to just take a deep breath and it'll be okay. Which is absolutely BS. You'll get to have a little bit of a high, just to fall farther when the high ends. This song could be about a friend, a boyfriend, husband, parent. The point is, life may look really good for a while, and then someone will come in and ruin it, and then once they've brought you down they just start emotionally kicking you, because you care. |

I resonate with this song. I had a short-lived coke addiction 22 years ago. The first time I tried it (I was 15) I liked it. The way it made me feel. 4 years later I was chasing that high again. It was never the same. Funny that I always turned to drugs when my life went to crap. Do I miss that first time? Yes, of course. Do I delude myself thinking it would feel the same now? No. My first love was like that. I loved him and the way he made me feel about me. It took me a very long time to realize I loved who he was, not who he became. When I started realizing he was bad for me, I told him that I was tired of being a booty-call and when he figures out what he wants to give me a call and MAYBE then we'll talk. Until then forget I ever existed. You always want that FIRST feeling. |

I just wanted to say everyone faces their first with fresh eyes and experiences. The first kiss is always awkward, but there is always a certain feeling to it. Your first high is the same. You want to feel like that again. It is never the same the second time or any after. This first time is always different and usually in good ways. There will never be a time quite like it.
