A point I haven't seen in other comments is a focus on "the wives and the sons and the daughters". We are **with** them as they listen by their telephones, radios, and televisions as they wait for what we already know will be the worst possible news. "Does anyone know ... waves turn the minutes to hours." Later we are with those people as they attend a memorial service and listen for a specific name followed by the single toll of a low bell. |
