Turbo Island is the name given to a specific street corner in Bristol, England where, until recently, the homeless, squatters, other societal misfits, and intoxicated revellers would light a bonfire and hang out. It often escalated into a crazy drug and drink-fuelled street party. It’s in an area called Stokes Croft, at the bottom of which is a roundabout called the Bear Pit. How the songwriter found love there is akin to flowers that bloom through the cracks in a concrete jungle. |
