Kate Nash – Skeleton Song Lyrics 2 years ago
When I first stumbled across this song I thought it was kind of cute and funny. Then the more I listened to it, the more I liked it, and realized it had a great meaning that I missed at first. The skeleton is real. She keeps it in her room and takes it with her like a child would take a teddy bear or a doll or a blanket. The skeleton has been her support as she grew up . She must have regularly talked to it and worked through her problems and fears by telling everything to the skeleton who was always there to listen, kind of like a psychologist listens to patients. Now as she gets older, she realizes she can't continue this childish relationship with a skeleton anymore. She has nightmares about destroying the skeleton, but can't bring herself to do it. In order to cover her own feelings of inadequacy, she tries to convince herself that the skeleton needs her, instead of vice versa. It's funny that she asks the skeleton why it insists on wearing clothes, when she's the one who dresses it up. This is a beautiful song that can bring tears to your eyes when you realize this is a song about a person with feelings of inadequacy and is trying to learn how to cope with life without moral support and needs a friend to talk to even if it's just a skeleton.
