To me, a great great song. This song should get an award for brilliance! When I listen to this I go back to 1947. H. Bogart in "The Big Sleep". I would bet that Steve Kilbey was watching some film noir around this time period. Of course Steve put an LSD twist at the end. Please know that the chorus says things like “The Lady Was Love Blind”. SPOILER alert... So, Steve is a Private Eye. The story is about a woman looking for her husband. She suspects something. So Steve takes the chase. He starts his day off with a "close shave” then goes out lookimg for her husband. He's looking for this guy that doesn't have face! How is he going to find him? So, he's searching high and low. Where would he go? So he gets really close but the woman would listen to what he's finding out. THEN... The last verse is particularly potent. Basically... In the mirror while shaving he see's the man with NO FACE! So he runs to the woman and says "It was me we were looking for" Then... "It was plain to see that The lady was LOVE BLIND" |
