@[MoRbIdBoY:45762] Thanks for the deep breakdown. This is clearly more of a rant than the typical song of Townes. He went through a heavy codine phase. He claimed If I Needed You came out of it. I would love to see the timeline of when he wrote parts of things. I’m pretty sure that he didn’t write many songs in one sitting. You can hear many song’s lyrics change over the years. My take is that she was a trusted and cherished friend. I think Townes would have wrote it into the lyric if any was superficial. I think he saw her as a good luck charm of sorts. I want to think that he thought of Loretta fondly throughout the years of his life. |

I love your explanation. I hope that is the real reason for the song. I would enjoy a conversation with you to get details. I think Loretta is one of his most tender songs with virtually no darkness. The fondness that he had for Loretta are written all into the lyrics. Thanks for sharing. If we could talk it would be great. |
