This is definitely not a correct interpretation of the song, but I like to think of it as a song about a daughter who is growing up and becoming more distant. |

I think the interpretations above are more correct for what the band intended, but this is the way I like to interpret it. “Night” signifies a dark period in life, especially one where someone had a goal that it looked like they were unlikely to achieve. The sun rising is after the person loses hope on that goal, and gets over it and tries to learn from it in the future. When he says stay alive, I like to think he is talking to his hope, which he is sure will die, but for now he is hanging on to. He fears future goals he can not achieve and hopes that those he considers to be his friends feel the same way about him. Taking pride in what is sure to die is thinking about some accomplishments he made on the way to trying to achieve that goal. Like I said, this is probably not what he intended it to mean, it is just an alternate interpretation. |
