Toto – Rosanna Lyrics 2 years ago
@[jules4099:45927] Written by David Paich.

Rosanna wed James Newton Howard not long afterward. He was a friend of the band and helped Toto with production. The marriage lasted only a year.

@[gardensyroses:45926] Yep. David thought her name was cute and fit the song. That's it.

@[captivated:45925] On the fourth or fifth marriage by now...I think she was still married or newly divorced when she met Steve Porcaro.

She dated Peter Gabriel right before his album "So" came out (1987?). Rosanna said they split up when Peter saw nude photos were published of her in Playboy, all over the magazine stands. Supposedly, it was printed without her permission. The story is weird. She let a photographer take pictures of her and she trusted they wouldn't be published??!!!

@[DanVitaleRocks:45922] Actually, no. While Steve Porcaro dated Rosanna, the songwriter, David Paich, needed a female name for a song, and thought Rosanna was a cute name. Rosanna and Steve were at David's home during the writing process.

But, Rosanna thought it was about her. But Toto only borrowed her first name!

Rosanna went on to marry James Newton Howard, who worked with Toto regularly assisting with production. Their marriage only lasted about a year.

Steve Lukather dedicated this song to his first wife, Marie. Michael McDonald (from The Doobie Brothers) sang background vocals in the chorus.

@[crxbart:45920] The 80's were fun! Granted things were bright, colorful, big hair, but so what? Good music lasts forever.

My take on older music:

Older music relied on talent more than gadgets. No computer cut and paste. The tape was cut manually to edit. Real instruments, real sight reading, more chord changes, singing in tune. Keyboards with manually created sound!
Not that we don't have real musicians today, but they're fewer in number.

New technology has paved the way for those who want to be creative, but it should just be for beginners mostly and a way of capturing ideas to expand upon at a later time. It's fun to experiment, but don't let technology consume your ideas, lest it begins to sound the same as others.

Toto – Pamela Lyrics 2 years ago
@[ravenglam:45718] I think one was Mike Porcaro's wife, Cheryl. I saw a photo of him with one of the ladies, which appeared to be Cheryl.

Joseph said Pamela had long, dark hair. She's not in the video according to him, but a lady resembling her was used.

David Paich's wife, Lorraine, doesn't seem to be on the video.
Luke was married to Marie Currie - I don't see her, either. Nor Jeff's wife.

Very catchy song. Some of Toto's best lyrics. Joseph Williams said he contributed to this song as it's loosely based on a "Pamela" he briefly dated.

It's meant to be lighthearted. If you can, watch the video on Youtube. It's cute, and the guys are ages 19-25 years-old, still quite young.
