The fact that she's arm-in-arm with the captain of the other team is a visual indication that everything seems to turn against him in a humiliating way. He is chagrined that he can't, in general, seem to compete. |

I discovered that an old flame had written, and been performing, several songs about our old relationship, and this song has had new and shocking resonance with me ever since. Hearing someone literally broadcast your pain in the chords of their music and "singing your life"; the embarrassment and publicity from feeling exposed, while simultaneously feeling invisible (as though your own feeling about it all or reaction was meaningless or unimportant)... it's all there. |

She needs to use her brain and think about what's best for a relationship. Buying roses is a perfectly fine idea, but as you say, the lines of communication need to be open to find out what the other person really wants and needs. |
