| Edwin McCain – Holy City Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| This is a ballad about the outbreak of the Civil War at Ft Sumpter in what's known now as the Holy of City Charleston, SC. It's a sad song from the mindset of a young southern soilder torn between his southern obligations to take part in the battle, the love he left behind and his discontented soul for all the bloodshed and horrors the war brings. The lyrics are so compelling. It makes me think about the horrible conditions these men felt as they were endured and died. I feel as though I'm right there witnessing his experience. He lived the battle and left the Holy City but he knows the ghost of his memories and the love of his southern roots will call him back one day. I love the way this song portrays such a vivid yet abstract account of our past. Excellent writing...beautiful melody. | |
