The primitive end to a failed state is torture, slavery, humiliation, starvation and death. I can't help but feel the torture of the defeated people at the end who "work hard with a gun at your back for a bowl of rice a day." Then "slave for soldiers till you starve and head is skewered on a stake". How sad to end your life in the worst way, totally.humiliated by an evil gang of soldiers, more horrible than deranged sea pirates. |

@[bizzolizzo:48417] yes good analysis. I believe this song is about solipsism. No logic can deny that others exist purely as thought and experienced inside the mind of the singer Trent. Can he believe you are really a separate mind or can experience anything outside of just what is inside his mind? |

Trent is a dieting guru. All you overeaters better MARCH. We are going to walk the fat off. They keep hiding twinkies and donuts so they win tonight and sleep soundly. Trent laments the eating disordered. |

| Spirit of the West – Puttin' Up With The Joneses Lyrics

Eugenics was once a powerful influence on society. It was responsible for human rights abuses such as sterilization of people with low IQ scores and making generalizations based on ethnicity about IQ. Also probably the reason why jobs that require a college efucation are high status and high paying. It was an influence that motivated the nazis and good people do not wish to murder large groups of people for low IQ or illnesses. The Joneses are excluded from society. Society regards them as too stupid to be allowed to have kids and a burden on society worth maybe a penny donation if you need to feel charitable. This is the ugly abusive aspect of eugenics and social darwinism. |

Point of departure sublimated in a song
This is a reference to Buddhism and Buddha's departure to seek sublime states of mind.
All of Operation Ivy and Rancid's music also was written about deep respect for and influenced by Jamaican ska music, especially 1950s era ska. Operation Ivy banded and disbanded in the late 1980s |

Imagine trying to live like that. I'd be a jobless neer-do-well. But this song is awesome and I overplay it. The part after this is a mockery-on-purpose version of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B Goode" with loud feedback and Mike saying "these are the words I really don't know". Loud and fast and crazy. |

It's chilling to list off everything about hobos in this song that describe me: stink bad, infested with microscopic bugs, endocrine system doo doo, jobless, etc. I qualify as a bum and I am not to approach NOFX at a concert I sneak into. I don't know about drinking lysol, that's poisonous. I think the lysol-drinking hobo remark is from prohibition era when the alcoholics drank poisons because addictive withdrawal made them need an alcohol substitute like poisonous lysol. |

| The Virus – Already Dead Lyrics

The political message is about warmongering nations destroying the lives of the innocent. I listened to this song during the pandemic as a song "Already Dead" by The Virus is a foreboding anthem for someone infected with a deadly disease and unknowingly passing it on to others. The sudden collapse of society is imminent but nobody has seen the symptoms of the insidious virus at this point! It's a terrifying song that sets a dark mood and a fast manic beat that stirs us into a frenzy of maniacs. |

| Rancid – Roots Radicals Lyrics

This tells a story about youthful despair as alcoholism, political anger, broken families, and poverty on the streets. The nihilism is a cause of excessive drinking. The juxtaposition to this is the exaltation of Desmond Dekker's reggae beats played out of a (1980s technology) boombox on a Campbell, California bus route. Climbing the hill with his friend with Desmond Dekker's reggae was the absolute high point of his youth and made him the career punk rocker. |
