| I think when people talk about Bo Burnham's best work this one is almost never brought up and i find that baffling because this is probably the sweetest thing Bo Burnham has ever written. ¨ If you want love the love has gotta come from you ¨ is a piece of advice i use literally everyday, I find especially now we forget to love the people around us and that makes us incredibly lonely. Love the people around you because if you can't love others how could others love you? | This song is so beautiful but overall is a somber love song, hes blaming the words they use to speak to each other for the fact that their relationship is failing. He loves them dearly and clearly wants to be with them but doesn't want to hear them berate him or hurt him. He wants to love them without speaking, to do things for them and to hold them in his arms but he doesnt want to risk being hurt by words that neither of them would be able to take back. | |

So I’m still new to song meanings and stuff but I wanna share my thoughts, I believe this song is about the idolization of public figures like celebrities or politicians. I feel like the singer sees whoever their talking about like a god (“you are the sun and moon and stars.”) I feel as if they don’t develop their own ideas or opinions anymore due to trusting them and believing their ideologies no matter how corrupt they really are. (“Why should I believe myself?”) I feel as if the person they basically worship is ruining the world they live in(“you, me, and everything caught in the fire.”) Though That’s just my interpretation ???????? |
