I think this song is about a relationship that was broken after the woman had an abortion. Look at the last lines of the last verse, below: Resting on the frozen ground The seeds of love lie cold and still Beneath a battered marking stone It lies forgotten 'It' is not the love they shared, except metaphorically. 'It' is the pregnancy she ended, or perhaps was ended for her by a miscarriage. |
