I believe this song might be about the feeling of limerence. Wikipedia describes it as, "a cognitive and emotional state of being emotionally attached to or even obsessed with another person, and is typically experienced involuntarily and characterized by a strong desire for reciprocation of one's feelings—a near-obsessive form of romantic love." The repetitive chorus mirrors the singer's obsessive thoughts ruminating endlessly on the object of his desire. He "can't stick to the path" because he "dreams about nothing but you". At the same time, this song isn't about a real mutual love affair, because "I may not say it outwardly / So all I have are memories" - maybe he's singing to an ex, or somebody he used to know and is still obsessed with. This is a song about about that giddy, all-consuming obsession that comes from dreaming about and wanting somebody, not about having them: "Those looks at the start, the words in the dark / But never a flame, we just wanted the spark" |
