Lauv – Superhero Lyrics 3 years ago
See when Lauv was out on tour, he had fans write notes and leave them in what he referred to as the “My Blue Thoughts” box. They could write down whatever it is they wanted and he posted some after each show on his Instagram story.
But one note stood out to him that read,
“I met a superhero. I lost her. I want her back.”
Lauv read this and immediately felt inspired, writing a song that started with those words. Kind of crazy to think that a fan at one of his shows ended up inspiring a song Lauv created with one his best friends, fellow songwriter Michael Pollack. But then Lauv took it upon himself to find out who his mystery co-writer was. These notes were all anonymous, after all!

Lauv explained that two months later, with the help of his team, they discovered the note was from his show in Boston. And from there, after many phone calls and emails, they uncovered the identity of the fan who wrote the note! His name is Martin and he lives in Germany. His girlfriend, Diana, lives in Boston and he was visiting her when he went to Lauv’s concert. Martin ended up going to the show alone though after he and his girlfriend got into an argument and that’s what inspired him to write that little. How crazy is that?

The Neighbourhood – Staying Up Lyrics 3 years ago
This Song is mostly self explainatory. But still there are some ideas I'd like to share.

"No food to eat, all the money's been wasted from last week
I can't even leave, so (...)"
There's a clear contrast between the things that happened last week and the sitaution now. It's almost possible to say that it's the opposite because you might think that wasting money is associated with being impulsive, emotional and outgoing. Also the person might had spent the money on unnecssary garbage because the word "wasted" was chosen. Also there is probably no benifit from the use of the money. What the person needs is something real, essential for survival ("food") but it is missing. Now the person can't leave this situation and is trapped by the following.
Regarding this radical change, I want to mention a hypethesis. Maybe this person is talking about Bipolar disorder. Radical changes between mania and depression. In a manic state you are likely to participate in risktaking behaviour and spent a lot of money.

"(...), so I sleep in the basement, making up rap beats"
With "sleep(ing) in the basement" the person maybe wants to show that they are passivly vegetating in this low/dark/lonely (link to basement) mood. And by "making up rap beats" they try to escape reality (hobby) or they are trying to make art out of their situation.

"How can I sleep if I don't have dreams?
I just have nightmares"
This part is about lack of purpos and arguably about hopelessness. This person doesn't have any dreams or wishes in their live. They only have axiety and worst-case-scenarios. That's why they can't sleep nor "leave" (V. 2)

"Some part of me feels a little bit naked and empty"
One interpretation might be that this person feels embarrased and rejected by society for feeling this way. I'm wondering why it says "some part".

"I'm stuck underneath a few dirty old blankets to comfort me"
This person may be getting just some not very useful answers when they are talking about this topic. Maybe the people around just try to be nive by giving half-hearted advice. There is nothing more these people can (or want) add. With "I'm stuck" they want to stress that they feel misunderstood and that these comments are limiting.

"How can it be?
I still believe something is out there"
Still this person has hope. They wonder how they keep going.

"And there's a light, and I can see why I'm still alive"
This person sees a meaning in their live and found hope again.

"Mommy won't lie, 'cause if she did, I would've died"
From now on it get's confusing for me. Is Mommy somekind of metaphor for God etc.? I'm not sure.
