Warpaint – Disco//Very Lyrics 3 years ago
Think it is a mistake to try to draw too concrete a meaning(s) out of this incredible song. The focus is heavily on its vibe/energy/rhythm... not on telling a coherent story or one reductive message. The words are definitely important. But what meanings there are would seem to be personal to the band members that composed each of the three different verses independently. Even the individual lines appear to break free of any singular theme.

But that's what makes it such a great meta-song for the band. What brings it all together is each member's shared focus on the collective sound-image and the self-reflective idea of the band itself. Brought together, the parts form one tone poem that describes the energy that Warpaint represents far better than any simple story or clever lyric ever could. All the words and verses reinforce that tone and vibe in some way.

Jenny described the song as being like their hip-hop style anthem. It is a sound manifesto. The words play on how insidious and addictive their music is and how they're not here to make you comfortable. Their tone pierces the skin and kills. They don't need to justify anything beyond their music... because that speaks aggressively for itself. They don't care who you are or what you're into... they'll poison you without prejudice.

The main chorus is an enigmatic reflection of that Warpaint sound in words.
