I agree with @[Starwatcher23:44418] 's interpretation of this song but i just wanted to say that as a teenager and guy in his 20's i never really appreciated Tool like i do today just having turned 40. I didnt not like them, but just wasn't all that moved by their music (I know CRAZY right!?). Anyways eventually i came to truly appreciate them on every level music can be broken down into and can't imagine life without their music. ANYWAYS I still remember the first time i actually listened to this song and was just blown away by its deep, internally prophetic, revolutionary subject matter and couldn't believe I'd heard it all those years on the radio without ever really listening to it!! I was tripping on mushrooms listening to a Fear Inoculum mix on Spotify through amazing headphones and Lateralus came on. I was taken on a journey from a child like understanding of our world to becoming a fully developed human being in all aspects of the sense and was blown away by the chord progression along with the rythm of Danny Careys drums paired with Justins one if a kind bass style, all while in sequence to Maynards beautiful lyrics. I haven't looked at Lateralus the same ever since and it amazes me still how my interpretation of a song can be so vastly differn't between two differn't times in my life. Just thought I'd share this experience and am sure I'm not alone in my feelings for this amazing song. Spiral out!! |
