I've always thought this was about the band aging out of relevance and the direction of EDM. It was summer, now it's autumn in their career. They're applauded then forgotten - we've moved far away from mixing electronics and standard instruments and any band set up. He's a poor man if you leave him. And while we change over from those that knew what life was like before the internet vs after it's in your face all the time, he doesn't know what to say and you don't care anyway. |

I firmly believe the song is about the fight for marriage equality in the US, which was coming to a head for the past year or more in the US. I can go through it line by line, it's a family with a gay member. They love the gay person, but it's the end of the world if they marry someone of the same sex. The gay person loves them back, but can't stop at anything but full acceptance. It goes back and forth with I want this from you, you want that from me, both sides also proclaiming love for each other. Maybe we didn't understand, not just a boy and a girl (can marry). |
