| Is this really a modern SP song with surface-level lyrics? I think so. The message this song delivers is really quite clear, even upon first read; Despite the invigorating nature of stage life, it's still wrought with fault. At the end of the day he's just a tired man. Keep in mind that he's known the stage for close to 35 years. On top of that, he's 55, the father of 2 young children, and the partner of his soon-to-be wife. Not a bad song. It's refreshing to decipherable lyrics for once, but this isn't really a standout track from CYR. | |

Lyrics circulate through life and death, hence the apt title 'Ghosts'. 'Torch like a dying sun' Suns/stars eventually form red giants once all of their hydrogen is spent and they 'die'. Possibly taking this too literally, but this appears to be an obvious metaphor for progression in life. New beginnings and opportunities present themselves, even after drastic change or death has occurred. 'Kingdoms of my kingdom come' Kingdom come is a biblical term used to denote the 'next world', or more commonly heaven/the afterlife. Once again, an apparent reference to progression and change. 'We're in the middle, ghosts'. Ghosts are those who have died, but not yet crossed over into the afterlife. In a way, they're trapped in a sort of limbo. In other words, they're caught between the middle, between life and death. Correlating this with human emotion, it seems clear that the writer is either feeling lost, nostalgic, or both. Seems appropriate, given the track was released shortly after 3/4ths of the band had just reunited. |
