The singer used to go nightswimming years ago with a group of friends, with whom he's now lost touch. Now he goes nightswimming alone, and feels nostalgic for the old times ("it's not like years ago"). He knows none of the passers-by have any idea why he's there ("I'm not sure all these people understand"). His life in the present day is mundane and boring compared to the times he had with his old friends (“these things they go away, replaced by every day”). The verse "You I thought I knew you" refers to someone in his old gang who he thought would be his friend forever, but who lost touch. The song perfectly echoes my nostalgia for younger days and long-lost friends. Absolutely beautiful. |
