| It’s basically a song about cheating. The first two back and forth make it pretty obvious. It progresses at an almost comical speed by the third lime (which is mis-transcribed, it should say “as soon as you walk out the door) It sounds like a couple that already broke up or is on the skids and he finally asks her “by the way, did you ever?” and she doesn’t hesitate to answer. But in spite of their apparent willingness to hurt each other there is still something there, as she convinces him to stay a bit, at which point he tells her he cheated too. It’s a couple that can’t stop hurting each other but can’t quite bring themselves to break it off completely. | |
