I love this song. For me it is about addiction and the lengths of despair people experience using. It's about how the problem is ignored yet staring us all in our faces. Every step seals our fate because as a society we are watching people suffer and suffering ourselves. But it all depends which direction we go in. Literally going down a certain path might contribute to a relapse or using. Are we helping or hurting or indifferent? I think they feel like they can relate to the suffering they see, they leave a piece of them behind. But they don't have the same outward condition of being homeless. I think they know that they could easily be in the same situation and emotionally are. They feel empty inside. They see the emptiness and pain and trauma. And it could be anywhere in the world because this problem is universal. |
