Jason is such an incredible songwriter who leaves us thinking after every song. Haven’t seen any takes online about this song but to me, it feels as though it’s written about his time on the road as an entertainer. He’s known through his music but only certain people truly know him and have a connection with him. He’s lonely like an “Orphan” but we experience that from time-to-time. We’re all orphans at some point in our lives struggling to find our way and make our own connections that withstand time. In the line where he talks about cutting his wife in half and everyone just laughed could mean that people like to see you fail at life. The highest part of the song is when he mentions that he makes people believe without anything up his sleeves or in his pockets. He’s able to make people believe he’s got it all but deep down he’s missing that permanent connection with someone. What’s your take? |
