Okay, it is now yr. 2023, 15 years after my pseudo-nimrod left the first comment above. I disagree. Drug use has become the #1 primary form of entertainment, hobby, career, etc. in the developed world. This song is more beautiful now than ever. And, in the interm, I learned to sing and sorry to be boastful, I can do it justice. And it still sounds like Byrne is saying “ON THE WATER”, but I am nearly totally deaf. But I can sing anyhow. I always wanted to sing, but was terrible. Suddenly, this week, it all came together and my full throated warbling is good. Weird. So, I quit. It was 35 years of ‘mostly prescribed morphine’, and a successful career in the retail end of opiates. I detoxed, it was horrible. I rehabed but after 8 weeks of mostly silly crap that didnt help, my coming out party was by ambulance (anemia). Clean for 15 months, beating the average relapse rate of 80% to 95% within one year. Most likely, I needed to do all that so I could finally sing, PS - my anemia is from liver disease, I am ‘terminal’ within 18 months, sayeth the Doctors. F*uck ‘em, I have songs to write. And sing. Check back in 15 years eh. The world will end before I will. |
