| Blind Guardian – This Will Never End Lyrics | 3 years ago |

The song is based on Walter Moers' "Wild Journey Through the Night". There, a boy is supposed to perform tasks for Death, because he has just died but still wants to live on. Besides the alternative of falling into the hands of Death's sister "Dementia" - who is also mentioned in this song - and thus falling into madness, these tasks are the only way to escape Death. With Moers' typical perfect mixture of humour, seriousness and philosophy, the book deals with death, the meaning of life, the end of time and the universe, as well as friendship, love and loss. What the song alludes to most, however, is that the boy is not given any abstruse tasks, as it seemed at first, but that the penultimate one in particular (he was supposed to extract a tooth from the most terrible of all monsters - time) had a deeper meaning. Namely, death was no longer willing to exist and wanted to kill itself, which only works with the tooth of time (note: "The tooth of time" is a German proverb). Death also tells one of the greatest secrets of the universe. Death puts the souls of the dead into soul coffins and sends them to the sun, which serves as fuel for the sun. This is also taken up in the song (note: in my opinion a very interesting and typically Moers approach to explain the meaning of death and the cycle of life philosophically). Even though this is about the song, I can also highly recommend the book on which the song is based. |
