Allow me to elaborate on that, had no time before. The wolf is the background world, it is the reality beneath the surface world. Every generation attempts to encapsulate this into a metaphor, a simple kid's story that's designed to show kids a glimpse of that background world, but give the message that "they can defeat it". You can never defeat the wolf. The wolf is immortal. You can run from it and delay it but never defeat it. "I promise there is a happy ending" (There is no moving past) "Your Granpa will take care of you now" (There is no better place) "I'm sorry, we have to go" (There is no future point in time) We will not get away Kids are taught to be independent and deal with the world independently, at some point they all have to think they can handle it, it's part of their development. (Are you sure this is what you want?) But the idea that they can beat the wolf is a hope-induced lie. "It's not that bad, you can handle it" (Hard as you try not to see it). And then at some point the parents die. And you see it. There it is. Staring right at you. It just took them, despite the lesson that anyone can beat it. The wolf always wins. And the wolf is death. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh7Z9HCyQyk |
