About love and feeling of depression. I dont think his songs are about mental illness but the feelings during different periods of his life about things in the world while having bipolar disorder To me this song is about someone who is depressed and how they see the world. How nothing matters, how you feel nothing, and then there is a person there that gives momentary, beautiful peace from that. |

It's about being in a mental hospital not a prison but how it's basically the same. Mental illness is also a prison. Imo it's about a mental illness sufferer not being understood by anyone because they're seen as crazy, violent, not human, and fine when they arent fine. It's about the effing endless state of loneliness. No matter how many people pretend or think they understand they treat you like you are fine. They may say "sorry that must be difficult" but you will always be alone. "When you're finished struggling are you free tonight" ie "I hear what you're telling me but I'm not listening/its not affecting me let's go party" how they dont understand it's about unending loneliness and they'll put you away to fix you but that isnt what you feel you need. They wont think to spend time, give their love or energy and no matter how much they love you that's always how it feels. People try to give you things to fix you, they fear you but all you need is love. |

| Matthew goods music has always connected with me on the most spiritual level as a person with bipolar. This is one of his only songs I cant explain but it fills me with the most emotion. The build up in this song makes me feel like how I live my life and how things start carefully/well/normally and how they are always spinning out/emotionally devestating/relating me. It makes me feel like I'm standing alone screaming on the top of a mountain and at the bottom invisible and making my way through the day. I feel the state of my whole life in this song. | |

I think it's just about love maybe even all types of love. I loved matt good since I was young because we are both bipolar and to me his songs have so many double meanings with how fucked up the world is and how fucked up we feel. With this song in particular it's like how love makes everyone do beautiful, destructive, wonderful and terrible things and how love in the worst of it can still be beautiful and vice versa. |
