I heard some song recently that reminded me of this song so now I’m obsessing over this song. I never really listened to the lyrics before but now that I have they are pretty great. There are so many wonderful covers of this song. Different tempos, voices, styles. You know what makes this song so versatile? The lyrics. It’s about insecurity. “Would you go along with someone like me?” I can hear so many different people saying this. A guy who has cheated on all his past girlfriends. A girl who has had many lovers. A drug user. An ex-convict. A divorced dad with kids. Someone who has self harmed. As you get older you have more baggage. This song is someone feeling insecure about their baggage, about their worthiness of being loved, and now they’re connecting with another person but proceeding with caution because they’ve been burned so many times before. |
