The Jesus and Mary Chain – Los Feliz (Blues and Greens) Lyrics 3 years ago
A sarcastic and bitter outlook on life in America.
The first verse is reminiscent of the intense superficiality that most Americans perpetuate.

"Girl, you taste like coffee
And you feel like rain
I'm not the coffee, I'm not the hot rain
I'm like the dust on the windowpane"

'You're too good for me, I'm like a fly on your windscreen' type of thing.

The second verse extends this idea towards servitude and Las Vegas, maybe from Jim Reid's personal experiences or just a generalisation of how you just need money and there'll be someone who will lick your feet no matter what. Materialism, in another word.

The chorus takes the sarcasm to the top. Jim sings out God Bless the USA as a parody on the hundreds or maybe thousands of US country singers who use it as a staple lyric and ends this with the "free people" living in America wishing they/you were dead instead of living in America.

My take on it is an idea that Jim had, a reason he never moved to America like his brother William and stayed in the UK because he hated how fake America is.

The rest of the lyrics seem to back this up, "the people blowing up their town" referencing the myriad shootings and societal chaos.

You get the point.
