The Paper Kites – Tin Lover Lyrics 2 years ago
@[HanaCarina:46637] I love this interpretation of this song. After reading your comment I now agree. When I listen to this song I feel as though there is so much love between the two singers but at the same time they are recognising that something has changed for the worse in their relationship. However the lyrics 'when the cold is over, pull me out the ground' shows how both of them are willing to make it work despite the difficulties. This shows a deep, true love between the two where they stick by each other no matter what.

Mazzy Star – Fade Into You Lyrics 3 years ago
When I first heard this song I thought it was a beautiful love song about being so in love, enamored and enchanted with someone that you want to ‘fade into’ them so you can be even closer to them. At the time I was deeply in love.

Now re-listening to the song and after having my heart broken for the first time I view this song in an entirely different way. To me now this song is about loving someone who is deeply damaged and who has two very different sides to them. As a result the relationship eventually ends and she is reflecting on the past.

In the first two lines she expresses her desire to be close to him again. She describes that gut wrenching pain after a breakup where you really start to appreciate the simple things like hearing your lover breathe or holding their hand. She is missing the old him that would have done anything for her just like she would have done anything for him.

Now instead of feeling love when she looks at him, she ‘see(s) nothing.’ She is searching for any kind of resemblance to the person she thought she knew but he has changed, or did she ever really know him at all? The lyric ‘strange you never knew’ could be her looking back and only now realising that she never really got close to the real him at all. The person she fell in love with does not exist. He never really existed. Her mind is wandering back to all those times when a friend warned her about him or she noticed another red flag. She is questioning why she didn’t realise what he was like sooner. She finally understands the phrase love is blind.

The lyric ‘a stranger’s light comes on slowly’ shows how eventually the real him comes out. It may take time but eventually his facade crumbles. He is a stranger, not because they have broken up and are no longer in contact, but because he has always been a stranger. She has never known the real him but despite all of this she craves his touch, smile and laugh - she yearns to ‘fade into’ him in the hopes that she could gain a greater understanding of the person who continues to crush her heart so ruthlessly in his hand.
