(Sandy) Alex G – Adam Lyrics 3 years ago
To me, this song suggests that the boy bullies Adam, because he has a crush on Adam and hates himself for having feelings for another male, therefore taking out his anger on Adam instead. “Adam won’t get his lunchbox back”, “He’s crying in the snow, I’ll never let it go”, this shows the boy stealing Adam’s belongings (in this case, his lunchbox) in a way to seem intimidating and mean, but instead he’s doing it to keep the lunchbox as it belongs to Adam. “I hope when Adam goes home, he hides it from his mom, he thinks of me alone” this shows that the boy thinks bullying Adam will make him think of him more, even if it isn’t in romantic sense, just as long as he’s in Adam’s mid constantly. “He’s crying in the snow, I want him so” this confirms how the boy truly feels towards Adam and how he only picks on Adam because he loves him, even though Adam might think the opposite of the boy’s feelings.

Slowdive – Dagger Lyrics 3 years ago
To me, this song tells us about how the man fell into a depression of some sort and a sense of derealisation or absence, causing his girlfriend or lover to leave. “I am her dagger, too numb to feel her pain”, shows us that the man knows he has hurt this person and feel helpless and guilt knowing they can’t fully show empathy and that he has become aware of how he has caused someone to feel pain, but not the same pain as him. “I am your wound” also is a lyric telling us about his self-awareness in the hurt he has caused for someone and how he can’t come to a conclusion on how or if he can fix things. “I didn’t really lose you, I just lost it for a while” shows us that this went on for a long period of time when they were together, he would be too numb to depressed to do or feel anything, while she felt touch starved and not given enough attention to satisfy her in their relationship. “I thought I heard you whisper, it happens all the time” tells us for sure that their relationship had indeed split apart and maybe the woman has moved on, we don’t really know; but what we do know is that the man is still mourning over the relationship that he himself caused to lose.

Suede – Trash Lyrics 3 years ago
To me, this just seems like a song about two teenagers in love who are deeply looked down upon, but honestly just don’t care. The lyrics talk about their “kookiness”, their dyed hair and their fashion sense as well as their music. This is a very big stereotype for teenagers by them looking either scruffy or very different in their fashion sense, or their music which can be varied upon many time periods. Maybe these two teenagers are being looked down upon by others around them as they are young and may fall into rebellious stereotypes amongst older people around them. Though still no matter what happens or how much they are judged, they simply cannot find any reason to care about it and therefore label themselves as “trash” for simply being a “trashy” teenage stereotype.

Nicole Dollanganger – Please Eat Lyrics 3 years ago
The song tells us about a person with anorexia, from the point of view of a non-disordered person feeling guilt and sympathy for them; wanting to save them in a way. The repetition of “please eat” shows us that this person is trying to get the disordered person to eat, to restore themselves and their health before it’s too late. Every line or verse in the song is referencing to starving or anorexic tendencies throughout the entire song. “Sitting on a throne of bones, staring at that cold meal”, referencing to a disordered person refusing to eat and/or being repulsed by the food being displayed to the. Another thing I found in the verses was the transition from “You can only starve so much till you like how it feels”, to “You can only stare so much before you’ll die” referring to the eating disorder slowly getting worse as the song goes on. She goes through the lyrics mentioning how she does not like the body of the anorexic person as it killing them, but instead what’s “inside the shell,” referring to the personality that was once in the body until it became so disordered, they lost themselves.

Instead of sugar-coating the harsh reality of eating disorders, Nicole did not do that, and she presented to us a beautiful song about a sensitive, deadly topic.

Pulp – Anorexic Beauty Lyrics 3 years ago
I agree when saying that this song indeed seems to “make fun” of the mindset of people who suffer with anorexia. As they look at themselves as ethereal beautiful people who sometimes desire to just be skin and bones to feel pure and pretty, others may seem them as ugly and “a creature of their nightmares”.

Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics 3 years ago
The lyrics are so melancholic in general, but then learning about how it represents Elliott and his liquor trying to get him to drink again, is extremely mind-numbing.

Jack Off Jill – Strawberry Gashes Lyrics 3 years ago
(This is my personal interpretation of the song, not the real meaning)

(Warning for self mutilation, molestation and depression)

I personally think this song is about a girl who gets molested and self mutilates to deal with the trauma, but they lyrics are coming from the point of view from a friend who was with her. Let me analyse each verse to support this.

“Turn her over (This could state the action of how the person found the girl in the unfit and used state of the molestation)
A candle is lit I see through her
Blow it out and
Save all her ashes for me

Curse me sold her
The poison that runs its course through her (The event taking an effect on the girl's mental wellbeing and the slow beginning of her unhealthy coping)
Pale white skin with
Strawberry gashes all over all over (“Strawberry gashes” representing self-mutilation wounds)

Watch me fault her
You're living a like a disaster (Once again, “living like a disaster” dealing with the effects of the traumatic event)
She said kill me faster (“kill me faster” could represent the girls suicidal thoughts or tendencies and how she no longer wants to live with the trauma)
With strawberry gashes all over

Called her over
And ask her if she was improving
She said feels fine
It's wonderful wonderful here (By this verse, I think this represents the person making the girl get help by admitting her to a professional. However, by the other lyrics we know the girl is lying to the doctor and doesn’t want help, causing her mental state to become worse)

Hex me told her
I dreamt of the devil that knew her (“the devil” maybe representing the people the person saw do it to the girl, or maybe just trying to figure out who it was that did this to their friend)
Pale white skin
With strawberry gashes all over all over

Watch me fault you're living like a disaster
She said kill me faster
With strawberry gashes all over all over
I lay quiet

Waiting for her voice to say
Somethings you lose and
Somethings you just give away (“Some things you lose, and some things you just give away” is the girl speaking to the person, maybe as a way of trying to process or accept what had happened to make the other person feel less guilt and remorse for not being there for her at the time)
Scold me failed her (The person believing they failed in protecting the girl)

If only I'd held on tighter
To her pale white skin that
Twisted and withered away from me away from me (The friend feeling terrible guilt in not being there for her, believing that this is their fault and they have caused their friend to become unhealthy mentally.)
Watch me lose her

It's almost like losing myself (The friend watching the girl slowly disappearing from herself and her regular personality, representing maybe a sense of derealisation as the friend has observed her)
Give her my soul
And let them take somebody else (The friend not wanting her to feel how she does anymore and solidly believing that they should of taken on her pain instead of her)
Watch me fault her

You're living like a disaster
She said kill me faster
With strawberry gashes all over all over me” (A possible twist in the song as the guilt has caught up onto the person, causing the person to repeat the same coping mechanism as her friend in order to deal with her guilt)
