I’ve always taken this song to be about watching a love one get hurt by someone else. There is a certain powerless in that for both parties so the metaphor of the hurricane is perfect. In verse one, the narrator is watching a loved one in denial about a failing relationship. In the chorus the narrator laments how joy is fleeing when a love ones are not stable Second verse is about how the love one rejects all that is good and is stuck in a cycle of addiction and bad relationships the third verse is about the narrator who is in a better place and challenging the loved one to do something different |
