This song is about that hidden part of yourself that only comes out when you’re with that certain person. Someone who really gets you, who sees you. I don’t even interpret this as necessarily sexual, although it could be, but it’s about a very deep, soul-level bond between two people, something ‘sacred’ and private. This song is also about the hope that romantic love can be a way of escaping the madness and chaos of the world, but it can’t (‘But you can’t save me from madness’). The speaker knows this - that love can’t save him from the sadness of life- but even still, he keeps hoping that it can. It’s that feeling of temporarily escaping while you’re with that certain person, but having to return to the reality of life. |
