Simon and Garfunkel – Save The Life Of My Child Lyrics 1 year ago
I was listening to this song for the first time today and when I heard Sound of Silence play, it made me think back to when I heard simon talk about
How the song is about poor communication and
The miscommunication generation to generation. (People hearing without listening, people talking without speaking, etc.) I think the mention of that was almost an innuendo referring to most people in The song is stuck on the idea that his suicidal
Tendencies are influenced by drugs due to what
they heard from generations before them.(disregarding if what the other gen learned was true or not)

Ben Folds – Fred Jones Pt. 2 Lyrics 1 year ago
Everytime I hear the lyric "he's forgotten but not yet gone", I take a moment to think about the context for such a statement.
It could be in a triumphant manor "I'm *still here!*" or even an upsetting manor "I'm still *here..*" as if he's stuck in some way rather than stomping on death and yelling victory to another day of living

It makes me think of Fred Jones part 1 (connected or not, in this were saying it's connected), his wife is dying and likely in part 2 is dead.

(If she is dead in part 2) it makes the lyric more powerful, forgotten by others but still alive and kicking. Everyone who he knows is dead or has forgotten him, he's still alive, but with no one to talk to, and no one to love him, or to give his love to in return.

I also look at the last bit. Talking about tracing a projection. I always imagine him painting a town, a city. A picture of his work place. Something changes, it's different now. It will no longer be how it used to be and he will no longer get the good times he had back, and no longer will he have those friends either.

I always imagine at "and it doesn't look right", he grabs the paint can and throws all the paint onto the canvas, in a rage, using his hands and covering the rest of the white on the canvas. He's so mad, so upset that he has nothing left but some stupid memories and the reminder that he is alone.

Just a few of my thoughts

Randy Newman – I Will Go Sailing No More Lyrics 1 year ago
I see this song as acceptance, coming to accept that they will never get to achieve their dreams because of how impossible they are "I will go sailing no more" - I will no longer chase after my now unreachable dreams.

Ben Folds Five – Tom And Mary Lyrics 1 year ago
My original thought when I listened to this song was that Tom and mary had some crazy news they were keeping to themselves, to "benifit" eachother, maybe even to keep their lives more private from others in a way.

Their friends and family have no clue whether Tom and mary are aware that they know somethings up, they don't know what that may be, so that's why I feel it's never explained: they know something up but have no idea what that may be.

What's funny about this song is that my parents names are Tom and Mary. It's genuinely a pretty weird but cool thing to hear my parents names in a song- especially by one of my favorite artists! I do enjoy this song and the fun tune that comes with it.
